About the Vidyalaya
Kendriya Vidyalaya Bailey Road, Patna, was established on December 1, 1986, under the leadership of its first Principal, Shri R.N. Jha. The school functioned in a temporary building provided by the Raj Bhavan on its campus. It moved to its own temporary building on the existing campus in April 1988.
The foundation stone for the new three-story school building was laid on December 2, 1994, by Shri Arjun Singh, Minister of Human Resource Development and Chairman, KVS. The new building was inaugurated on December 4, 2000, by Shri H.M. Kaire, IAS, Commissioner, KVS.
Subsequently, another new building was constructed to accommodate more classes and the growing number of students. Today, it stands as a pillar of academic excellence in Patna.

Admission Process & Guidelines
Who Gets Priority?
Admissions in Kendriya Vidyalayas are open to all, but are granted based on a priority system. Children of specific categories get preference.
- Priority 1: Children of transferable and non-transferable Central Government employees and Ex-servicemen.
- Priority 2: Children of employees of Autonomous Bodies, Public Sector Undertakings (PSU), or Institutes of Higher Learning of the Government of India.
- Priority 3: Children of transferable and non-transferable State Government employees.
- Priority 4: Children of employees of Autonomous Bodies or PSUs of the State Governments.
- Priority 5: Children from any other category (including private-sector employees or self-employed parents).
Note: Within each category, preference is given based on the number of transfers the parent has had in the last 7 years.
Key Admission Rules
- For Class I: Admissions are done through a central Online Lottery Portal. The child must be 6 years old as of March 31st of the admission year (but less than 8 years).
- For Class II to VIII: No admission test. Admissions are based on the Priority Category system (listed left) and a lottery is held if applications exceed seats in any category.
- For Class IX: Admission is granted based on an Admission Test in Hindi, English, Maths, Social Science, and Science (100 marks). A merit list is prepared for each priority category.
- For Class XI: Admission is based on the marks obtained in the Class X Board Examination. Students are allotted streams (Science, Commerce, Humanities) based on merit.
- Reservations: 15% seats for SC, 7.5% for ST, and 27% for OBC-NCL are reserved in all fresh admissions.

- Certificate of proof of age (Birth Certificate) for Class I.
- Proof of Residence.
- Service Certificate (for Priority Categories) signed by Head of Office.
- Certificate of retirement (for uniformed Defence employees).
- SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/EWS/BPL Certificate (if applicable).
- Differently Abled Certificate from competent authority (if applicable).
- Original Transfer Certificate (TC) from the previous school (for Class II and above).
- Aadhaar Card of the Child (if available).
- Proof of parent's transfers for last 7 years.
