The A.N. Sinha Institute of Social Studies (ANSISS) was inaugurated on January 31, 1958, by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India. It became an autonomous statutory body in 1964 and is funded by the Government of Bihar and the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi.

Situated on a serene, sprawling campus on the banks of the river Ganga in Patna, the institute is a premier center for research and education in social sciences. The campus also holds historical significance, as Mahatma Gandhi stayed here in 1947, a heritage that the institute proudly preserves.
